RTMP is the protocol the Adobe Flash Media Server uses to communicate with the user's computer. The RTMP connection is established when the user views your FMS enabled content within their web browser. The content can be hosted anywhere (including your desktop) because the connection to FMS happens directly between the user's machine and the Flash Media Server.
